Brazil going to win the world cup...

With the end of the decade approaching a lot of websites and magazines are releasing their all decade teams. It got me thinking about the national team’s all decade squad. This was a decade that saw Brazil win a World Cup, two Confederations Cups, and two Copa America titles. Even with the disappointment that was the 2006 World Cup, this was a very successful decade for the Seleção.

So what was the best XI for the national team? There have been several standout performers at several positions. There have also been many players who had strong starts to the decade, only to decline in the second half of it. Based on national team play alone, here is my team of the decade.

Forwards: Ronaldo, Rivaldo
Midfield: Kaka, Ronaldinho, Gilberto Silva, Emerson
Defense: Roberto Carlos, Lucio, Juan, Cafu
Keeper: Julio Cesar

Luis Fabiano and Maicon are arguably the next two on the list. The inclusion of Emerson is a bit unspectacular, but he was a mainstay in the midfield for six years. Feel free to post your team on the message boards.

It was another slow week in terms of national team news, especially since Serie A is off until January 6th. The transfer window is opening back up next month and a few Brazilians should be on the move. Globo has good feature that shows all the movement and rumors in domestic league that I highly recommend.
